Christmas with Barry Lehman
Christmas invites us to pay attention- to notice grace, light, hope,
and connection in ordinary lives and unexpected places.

Christmas always begins with a story. A man and a woman traveled to a distant city for a census. A baby is born, telling us that God wants the world to continue. There are angels and shepherds, then a star and visitors from the East. To celebrate Christmas is to tell stories.
For almost forty years, I have told Christmas stories about ordinary people who discover something unexpected—grace, hope, light, connection.
The Lost Jesus is the story that started it all.
Chapter One
SOMEONE HAD STOLEN Baby Jesus. The pastor had spent the best part of the previous 24 hours with policemen, board members and answering questions from distraught parishioners. But there were no leads or clues. The manger by the church doors sat empty.
For years First Church had been famous in town for their outdoor nativity scene. It sat in front of the church during the weeks before Christmas, reminding the shoppers who passed by of the meaning of the season. The congregation felt that the witness of a downtown church was unique and the Nativity Scene was part of their mission.
Contemporary stories and reflections about ordinary people encountering grace, hope, and light in unexpected places. These are stories for the joys, uncertainties, memories, and surprises that come with Christmas.
Christmas comes every year.
But we never arrive as quite the same people.
