Who I Am and What I Do

Coach and Consultant

I help people in long-term recovery build lives of depth, meaning, and steady direction — drawing from decades of lived recovery, counseling, and spiritual practice.

I have been sober since 1988. With a Doctor of Ministry in counseling, I specialize in long-term recovery. I am the author of the award-winning book, Mastering Recovery.

I have worked as a counselor in Wisconsin and Minnesota for over 30 years. I retired from Mayo Clinic Addictions Services in Rochester, MN, in 2025 after over 17 years.

My wife Valerie, also a retired Moravian pastor, and I live in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Substance Abuse Counselor

These are the ways I stay alive, grounded, and human in recovery.
